In fact, a buddy's core support wasn't exactly straightened by whatever shop repaired a minor front end collision before he owned the car. It was more of a visual nuisance than anything else. The solution? Since we didn't want to impact deform it by hammering on it, we used a tie down that I used to use for my motox-bikes, which are nylon. We wrapped it around the area that was still slightly pushed back and tied it around a tree. Put her in reverse and had him slowly release the clutch until the support was straightened. You could not tell it was ever damaged. Although straightening a slightly bent core support is more of a cosmetic fix than anything else, your buddy probably should have taken that car to a professional frame shop to have it inspected and straightened.
